Melindi Charle is very quiet these days, but here are a few things you need to know about her
Melindi Charle – South Africas Marilyn Monroe. Born in Durban, Melindi began her career in entertainment back at the tender age of 5. Singing and acting were her first calls to the world of entertainment.
After years singing and acting, acquiring numerous certificates in dance, theater and singing she got her big break with her debut E.P. “Ydelmens” back in 1999.
It was apparent from “Ydelmens” release that South Africa had a gem in Melindi. A sultry, sexy, versatile afrikaans pop, rock, folk, easy listening style singer with her blonde curls and superior voice that the limelight would call her soon.
In 2000 came “Fire In The Dark” and so the spark in the dark was lit and the star that is Melindi Charle began to shine across South Africa. Extensive touring and video shoots propelled Melindi into stardom. So long was the promotion of her album that 2 years passed by and the recording of “Sheila, The Woman In Me” was released to the public in 2002. “Sheila” was a slight break from the ‘norm’ in the music industry as it coupled it with quite a theatrical show with the same title – again this toured across South Africa.
2004 Saw the release of the stunning “Einde van die reenboog” which really showcased Melindi’s diverse vocal talent. Exhausted after endless touring it was time to take a rest. Little did Melindi expect the break to be 5 years in the making – “Wille Vicky Se Woorde”, “Behind The Black Sun” & “VaderGod” was initially realised in 2005 but finally recorded and due for release in 2010.
Again Melindi has gone beyond the ‘norm’ and released the album in both English and Afrikaans to please the wider geographical variety of the Rainbow Nation fans. 6 Years in the making and with a helping hand from the legend Steve Hofmeyr. He contributed by donating a new song for Melindi’s album, the track titled “Sorry” and “Woorde”. Expect relentless touring, marketing and more from Melindi in 2010 and beyond.
