Japie Mulder was called up to the Springbok squad as a replacement on the tour of New Zealand in 1994 and impressed so much in the mid week games that he was quickly included in the test team.
His peak was in 1995 and 1996, but he played his last test for the Boks in 2001 after a couple of seasons in the rugby wilderness.
He will be remembered as a powerful straight runner who was also a very strong and solid defender. Remember that tackle on Jonah Lomu in the 1995 RWC final?
