We named this video “confident brilliance” because Gaffie du Toit was at his brilliant best when he had confidence. On top form, he could kick drops from anywhere, land long range penalties and break the advantage line almost at will.
Du Toit hit the South African landscape like a hurricane in early 1998 when he played a vital role in Griquas winning the first ever Vodacom Cup. He was selected for the Springboks the same year and made his debut in the win against Ireland in Bloemfontein.
Injuries and dips in form resulted in Gaffie not featuring regularly for the Springboks over the next couple of years and it is a shame he never played more tests for South Africa. He could have been on of the all time greats, but he still gave us some magic memories. Here are the best of them.
