In 1991 South Africa united all it’s different rugby boards and unions into one governing body, The South African Rugby Board. We were still in isolation, but an “international” friendly was scheduled between the Springboks and the Junior Springboks, technically matching the 30 best players in South Africa against each other. It was quite and enjoyable match to watch with both teams keen to impress, as everyone knew international rugby was on our doorstep. The Springboks prevailed at Kings Park and scored some great tries.
Also, for anyone who thinks Naas Botha can’t tackle, watch out for his try saver at the end of the match.
