Johan Heunis was one of the original “utility players” in South African rugby and played fullback, wing and centre for Northern Transvaal. But it was as a full back that he made his name and represented the Springboks. He was part of a lethal back line that included Naas Botha, Danie Gerber, Ray Mordt and Carel Du Plessis.
He will be remembered as one of the better Springboks ever produced by the Blue Bulls.
