Danie Gerber simply is the best Springbok ever. I’m sure this statement will open up debate, but no one will argue about his ability to cut open defenses. He had unbelievable natural pace and power and his sheer instinct to find the try line was something to behold. For many years Danie was the leading try scorer in first class matches. It is unfortunate that he played in a time when South Africa saw very little international action and most focus was on players like Philippe Sella when people discussed the greatest players of that era. Danie was the best, it’s as simple as that.
